Some Of What You'll Be Doing This position is considered critical and essential, at-will, and is appointed by the Executive Director. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the Port’s top financial executive and a key advisor to the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and Port Commission. This at-will position shapes financial policy, protects public assets, and ensures long-term economic sustainability. As Treasurer, the CFO oversees treasury operations and manages a debt portfolio exceeding $3 billion.
The CFO leads financial strategy, including budgeting, capital financing, risk management, and investments. As part of the Executive Team, they drive innovation, ensure compliance with evolving regulations, and promote transparency in financial reporting.
- Oversee all financial functions, including planning, budgeting, treasury, and accounting.
- Lead the development and execution of the Port’s annual and long-term financial strategies.
- Manage multi-year capital funding plans and investment portfolios.
- Serve as executive sponsor for cross-departmental and enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Provide strategic leadership for enterprise risk management and insurance programs.
- Engage with external auditors, rating agencies, investors, and elected officials.
- Advocate for the integration of digital finance tools and technologies.
- Promote financial policies that uphold equity, inclusion, and ethical stewardship.
- Collaborate with counterparts at the Northwest Seaport Alliance.

Who You Are - You have ten (10) years of financial management and operations experience in leading an organization’s financial and accounting function; directing financial strategies including responsibility for the strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk and compliance, and oversight of the organization’s financial activities.
- You have five (5) years of senior leadership experience as a Chief Financial Officer, senior leader or performing similar functions including working with and collaborating with other executives to strategically align financial goals and overall business objectives.
- Preferable you have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, economics, or public administration.
What Else You Need To Know - Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
- Work Environment – You will primarily work in an office environment.
- Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
